Week 10 with Preschool

All year we have been developing our fine motor skills, and, everyone is able to recognize their own name. Now, everyone is ready to start tracing their names. Before Pre-K, we want to become comfortable with the motions of writing our names. You can see these pictures on Seesaw.

We also practiced our gross motor and reflex skills with the game hot potato. The students loved this game!

To continue studying our unit of inquiry, we created lots of art! The students created their third watercolor. We create one watercolor painting every month, and at the end of the year, will compare and contrast all of our paintings.

We continued our collaboration with 6th grade, and studied two different cultures. We looked at Aboriginal art and the art of Yayoi Kusama. These works of art, although very different, both use symbolism, patterns, and dots for expression. We found Japan and Australia on the map. watched traditional dances from Aboriginal and Japanese culture, and were inspired to create our own works of art using dots, patterns, and many colors!

As much as we love art, we also love science, and we all had a blast testing theories using shaving cream, food dye, and paint! On Seesaw, you can watch videos about predictions the students had about mixing orange and yellow. Later, we tested red, yellow, and blue while finger painting. The textures of shaving cream and paint had everyone engaged.

Finally, we practiced patterns using counting bears and sand. The students created color based patterns, and afterwards, we practiced finding different animals in the sand. The students took turns hiding the different animals while everyone else closed their eyes. It was so much fun!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
