Grade 6 Week Beginning 11/11

This week grade 6 have been continuing their collaborative Art project we Pre-School. Our art this week was more functional and in 3 Dimensions. We made coil pots using clay. Coil pottery is a method that has been used by humans for thousands of years and some of the oldest pottery comes from this part of the World.

In Math we have been learning about Square numbers and Square roots and the relationship between them.

We began our research into different civilizations from across the globe, from Canada, Japan, Egypt, Rome and Gaul and will be continuing this throughout the unit. It is wonderful that students have selected civilizations from four different continents giving rise to a truly international study into ancient Civilizations. We also co-constructed our central idea as a class ''Ancient Civilizations impact our Modern Lives''.

In ICT, students have been designing some simple machines and have finished making their cars, planes, bows and arrows. Students learned about 6 simple machines that can be combined to make more complex machines and tools such as the ones they made in ICT. We are thinking about how these tools were used to advance civilization.

We also received a special delivery this week in Grade 6. Students from H-International School in Treviso, Northern Italy wrote to us inviting us to be pen pals with them.
