Grade 2 term 1 Where we are in place and time

This week we began to think about our new unit of inquiry. We looked at change and the reasons for change. The children made some beautiful and imaginative pictures to show change in different situations. We also thought about whether change was something good or not. In general the children thought that change was a positive thing.

We also thought about one of the IB attitudes that we are going to focus on over the next few weeks, which is tolerance. The children have been working really hard putting together a performance to showcase how we can be tolerant and what happens if we are not. We`ve had a couple of practice runs and they are coming along really well.

Finally, we`ve started thinking about our central idea, dealing with migration. Today we watched videos of migrating animals to get the children thinking and asking questions. The children came up with some great ideas, all of which are going up on the wonder wall.

Have a great holiday and keep up the good work!

Grade 3 Term 1 Where We Are in Place and Time 10/28/2016

We just finished our Celebration of Learning on 'Who We Are." We have begun our unit on "Where We Are in Place and Time." Our central idea is that "explorations and significant events change how we perceive the world. Our lines of inquiry are- a.) Communities respond to significant events.  b.) Results and consequences of exploration. c.) New discoveries and understanding require responsibility.
Everyone has finished their exquisite Coat of Arms but we are ready for bigger and better things.

The children have begun to research famous explorers and we will make a "Living Museum" for our Parent Observation.
Beyza found an article in the newspaper with a little help from her teacher on Junko Tabei. Tabei was the first woman to climb Mount Everest and she is from Japan. We have been morphing our faces on the computers for interesting results.

Grade 1 Week 9: Families Have Histories and Traditions That Are Shared

This week we started a new Unit of Inquiry, Families have histories and traditions that are shared. We will be learning how our families history and traditions have developed over time and how they affect our lives today. I would like to encourage you to talk to your child about  their family members, especially ones they do not know or who live in other countries, as well as their family history and traditions.

Have a great Fall break!

Week 9, Term 1: Where We Are In Place And Time

This week was our first week starting our new unit, Where We Are In Place And Time.
For this unit we will be looking at personal histories and how we record important events in recent history.

For language, we are looking at diary writing and narratives, and have started reading Yoko's diary. It is a diary written by a student in 1945 in Hiroshima.

In maths, we are nearing the end of our fractions unit, and students have been preparing for our test on Friday.

In art, we started an art journal.
