Students have been continuing there collaborative art projects with Pre-school this week. We looked at different art forms from around the world including ancient Celtic stone carvings, some Indigenous Australian Art and modern Art by Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama. We identified dots and shapes along with wavy lines within the pieces that can be combined to create patterns or symbolize different things. Students then collaborated to create their own patterns on natural materials on sand or stone and also on paper. We made connections with between different civilizations across the globe and throughout time in the ways that they express themselves.
In Math, we have been continuing our inquiry into patterns and are making some of our own and writing rules that can be used to describe the pattern.
Finally, we Finished off our week with a trip to Nihon Minka-en Folk Park to learn about the traditional craft of indigo dying and to see some traditional Japanese country houses.
