Grade 1 Week 13

What we are learning about in Grade 1

Inquiry: People develop an understanding of the Earth's position through exploration and discovery
Learner Profile: Open Minded
Transdisciplinary Skill: Communication Skills- creating an informative poster
Mathematics: 3D Shapes. Properties of 3D shapes (Faces, Edges, Vertices or Corners). Identifying, sorting, matching, making and discussing shapes using Mathematical language. Making connections to the shapes we may find in space. Connection: Calendars and seasons.
Reading: Reading comprehension, purpose of Non fiction books (to inform), Guided Reading
Writing: Writing Non Fiction posters using factual information 

Morning activities- drawing the flags of the world for their personal inquiry time.
 Displaying work the children are proud of
 Reading with Ms Hilary for personal inquiry time
 Drawing and using the drawing books during personal inquiry time each morning
 Research Skills- finding out more for their Non Fiction Posters
 A guest speaker from Year 2 shares her knowledge of the Solar System after her personal home research and visit to the Space Museum.
