Grade 5: Week 11

Grade 5 have been finishing off their Japanese myths this week. They worked to create interesting and grammatically correct dialogue in their writing that would provide information for their audience and move the story along.

Using drama, the children acted out the battle between Susano and Yamata no Orochi in slow motion to generate description. The children thought about small steps that would create drama and tension for the reader and wrote descriptive 3 pack action sentences.

In preparation for the Winter Performance, the children created puppets of the characters of their myths. They have been practicing their puppeteering skills, working to keep their audiences engaged by moving their puppets as they talk, ensuring their puppet gives its audience eye contact and making sure that it isn't floating in the air.

Finally, Ms Cally, Ms Naoko and I were impressed with Grade 5 during buddy reading this week. They have found ways to engage the Pre K students by asking questions, singing songs and using the space to get their buddies excited about reading.
