Preschool- Number Lines and "Crocodile, Crocodile..."

This week in Preschool, we started the week off by decorating our very own koma (tops).

To further our study of light, we studied how light passes through semi-transparent objects, like water beads. First, we put water in a container, and watched the water beads grow throughout the day. Then it was time to use them! We loved looking at the cast shadows, creating patterns, and seeing them in natural light outside.

For literacy this week, we loved using our new crocodile bag and chant, to match lowercase and uppercase letters. First, we sang our crocodile chant, and then reached in his mouth to see what letters he had eaten. But be careful when reaching in the crocodile's mouth....he may SNAP! When our friends drew a SNAP card, we would squeal and hide from the crocodile! I think maybe they liked the SNAP cards better than the letter cards!

In addition to patterns, for math this week, we created a number line from 0-20. First we used our colorful numbers to practice getting familiar with the number line and how it works.

Then, we hung up the number line (a little crooked but, hey, it gives it character), and used post it notes to organize the numbers 0-20. This is a super easy and fun activity you could all try at home, too! We loved organizing the numbers and timing ourselves.

For reading, we of course continued our much loved tradition of reading with 2nd grade. And, this week, we all practiced being teacher, and "reading" our favorite books to one another. We also created our own names using clay. Next week, after they dry, we can not wait to paint them.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
