Grade 3 Breaking News Stories

As part of our inquiry unit, the students are writing various breaking news stories about natural disasters.  They had to create fictitious stories about a natural disaster that happened but using real facts and pictures to tell their story.  Each group did their own research using kid friendly websites and books from the library.  Next week, during ICT, they will type out their news stories.

We also studied about the layers of the Earth during our inquiry unit.  This past week we studied the vocabulary to understand more about the different layers.  We used our knowledge to create the layers of the earth to show our understanding.

Finally we read a book entitled A River by Marc Martin.  The students were challenged to create rivers as individuals and make one large class river.  They enjoyed being creative and relating it back to what they have learned in the past from previous inquiry units.
