Welcome back Preschool!

I hope everyone had a nice mid-term break!

We started the week with some rewards. Our students received reading certificates, and afterwards, enjoyed reading in the literacy center. To continue our pursuit in building a love of reading, we read with second grade in the library as well.

To end our first unit of inquiry, we went to kindergarten, and explored different countries around the world through a map. We then used google maps, to delve deeper into different cities around the world. Preschool loved using the touch screen!

We also started a new unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves. During this unit, we will collaborate with 6th grade. We will create works of art spanning different cultures and time periods together. Preschool loved working with 6th grade, and we started the unit off with cave paintings. We used cardboard to resemble the rough texture of cave walls, brown paint, and pastels.

In preschool, we talked about different textures, and they had so much fun creating new textures by ripping cardboard, and painting and drawing on the cardboard.

Since cave paintings use simple lines and shapes, we also reviewed our shapes with a hide and seek puzzle game. The students had to close their eyes while we hid pictures of shapes around the room. Then, they had to find the pieces and put them together.

Overall, everyone had an artsy week with the new unit.
