Grade 1 Week 10


What we are learning about in Grade 1

Inquiry: People develop an understanding of the Earth's position through exploration and discovery
Learner Profile: Open Minded
Transdisciplinary Skill: Research skills
Mathematics: 2D Shapes. Properties of 2D shapes (Edges, corners, faces). Identifying, sorting, matching, making and discussing shapes using Mathematical language.
Reading: Reading Sight words, Reading comprehension, elements of Non fiction books (Title, contents page, facts, information, glossary, diagrams, illustration), Guided Reading
Writing: Writing sight words, Non Fiction writing, factual information reports
Listening and Speaking: Learning Five Little Astronauts poem and movements for Winter Celebration.
Spelling and Vocabulary: Consonant blends, Words Their Way sorts, spelling sight words

Words their Way sorts and using thinking skills to identify sounds in letter patterns.







Responding to Texts and Listening to Podcasts about Space and our interests 





Maths Inquiry Learning- Making Connections between prior knowledge of 2D shapes and new learnings. Exploring a new concept with concrete materials.













The children have worked so well this week! It was great to see some new students sharing and bringing things They are really engaged and participate collaboratively during our inquiry learning sessions. Well done everyone on a great return after the mid term break.
