During language in the mornings, we practice writing and tracing our names with upper case and lower case letters. A few of us can already write our names independently, too! To begin differentiating between upper and lower case letters, we did a scavenger hunt around the classroom. We closed our eyes as the teachers hid the magnetic letters around the classroom. It is very hard not to peek, but we did our best! We then matched the upper case magnetic letters to the lower case letters on the white board. All the while singing our alphabet song.
For reading, we continued our buddy reading with second grade, and we decided to start reading books to our pet fish. The fish and the students enjoy story-time together! This week, our books of focus were David Goes To School, Go-Kart, and Frozen Noses. These books taught us how to be principled during school, how to share with one another, and opened up discussions about our favorite winter treats and activities.
Reading about getting along with each other and practicing sharing techniques helps us during developmental play time. During this time, we discover things about ourselves and friends, and are able to deepen friendships and create new friendships.
Have a great weekend!
