Kindergarten - Term 2 Week 2

During this week's morning meeting, we continued discussing times we've been inquirers and risk-takers outside of school. Some student volunteers put an item in the Mystery Box for inquiring classmates to ask questions about. Some questions asked were, "is it a toy?" and "how do you play with it?".

We continued out theme 'How We Express Ourselves' and reflected on the good and bad feelings we discussed last week, and different ways in which we can show how we feel.

The class was divided into three groups and each group created and acted out their own play based on an emotion. The students had to practice communication with other group members and showed to be risk-takers when acting out in front of the rest of the class.

The students appreciated different styles of paintings and how they were used to express feeling and culture. They observed four different styles (aboriginal Australian dot painting, Pop Art, traditional painting and abstract geometric painting) on the iPads exhibition-style and then chose the style they liked the most. We then discussed what we liked and the differences between the painting styles.

We looked more closely at the aboriginal Australian dot paintings from 65,000 years ago. The students were so open-minded as they learnt a little about the culture. Students enjoyed discussing what life might have been like to them and how they used to live. We discussed why they used rocks, why they often painted animals and the colours they used. The aboriginal Australians used to paint on their bodies or on rocks as they didn't have any paper to use! They painted in dots as they didn't have paintbrushes - they used sticks!

To replicate this, the Kindergarten students did their own rock dot paintings used cotton buds.
They really enjoyed it!

We learnt 'oa' words in Language class!

The students appreciated this artist's work - she was expressing her love for her spelling words!
The students replicated her style with their spelling words. They noticed that the artist used soft colours in the background and paid careful attention to the colour they used.

In Math, Kindergarten needed to be thinkers to decide whether a range of classroom objects were 2d shapes or 3d shapes. Once they successfully arranged them, they arranged them in other ways, such as by shape, colour, use, or from biggest to smallest.

The students gathered relevant classroom objects and created a 2d table and a 3d table.

We used the iPads to play some games with 2d and 3d shapes.

...and we completed some fun worksheets
