Grade 1 - Our Five Senses

This week we began observing, predicting, and recording/graphing the weather every day. It has been interesting to observe how the weather can change day to day, and even during the day, from cloudy in the morning to sunny in the afternoon. We will continue this for the rest of the unit, and think about the "changes in land and sky," which is one of our Lines of Inquiry.

We also learned about what our five senses are, to help us think about our Line of Inquiry "How we use our senses to observe and respond." In groups, we designed a poster about our five senses, utilizing information we learned from books and videos. Rather than just saying how some foods taste good or bad, we decided to write specifically about different tastes like bitter, sour, sweet, and salty. Another important fact we learned was that our five senses are important in helping us stay safe. We discussed how our sense of sight and hearing are especially crucial, and thought about times like when we walk to the park, and how we need to watch out and listen for cars. Each group presented their posters to the class as well.
