Grade 3 Literacy Week

This past week SIS celebrated Literacy Week.  There was a variety of events that the students participated in including a book fair, guest readers in the classroom, a reading challenge, dress as your favorite character, and buddy reading.

Grade 3 was fortunate enough to have two guest readers this year.  One of our guest readers read in Japanese and the other reader read in Spanish.  Then the children discussed the books with the reader.  It was a great opportunity for them to hear a familiar story in a different language.

Students also had the opportunity to hear Ms. Lauren read a story from her hometown.  They got to hear the story Make Way for Ducklings, which takes place in Boston, Massachusetts and then saw real images from google maps about the places in the book.

On Thursday the students had Celebration of Learning and Dress As Your Favorite Character from a book parade.  Each child dressed up as a character from the book and brought the book with them to school.  Awards were presented to a person in each class for best costume.  Grade 3's winner was Esra as she dressed as Ms. Frizzle from Magic School Bus.

We ended our week buddy reading with  Kindergarten.  Grade 3 read to the Kindergarten  kids and then we were lucky enough to have some Kindergarten kids read to the whole class.  Everyone had a great time!
