Week 2 Who We Are

This week during Inquiry we learned about what makes up a community and how a community operates.  We also talked about cooperation, working together, and learning about each others differences.  Finally during Inquiry we started circle time where students share things that are either good or something that is bothering them in class.  Students are learning not to judge each other as well as understand that everyone has feelings and needs to be respected.

This year grades 2 and 3 are learning to play the recorder.  We are using the program called Recorder Karate where students have to practice and pass each song in order to move to a new level.  So far 11 of the students have passed white belt!

As international learners we are learning to communicate with people all around the world.  This year grade 3 will be writing letters to students in the United States.  We will exchange letters several times over the year so by the end of the year students will have met a new friend and learned about a different culture.

Finally this week we finished reading the book "Freckle Juice" by Judy Blue.  Students worked on a story map about the characters, setting, the problem in the story, and the solution.  Then they had to illustrate the beginning, middle, and the story.

Grade 3 had a great week, worked hard and are doing great at working with new friends!
