Grade 5 and 6 Who We Are Term 1 Week 2

Grade 5 and 6 talked about the Key Concepts of  our Who We Are unit as related to our lines of inquiry.  We want to make connections by asking ourselves how rights are viewed globally. We'll be looking at the concept of function and seeing how rights are granted. Then, the class will be exploring the concept of responsibility and seeing that actions need to be taken to protect rights.

Eren brought this book about life in ancient Mesopotamia which is now a part of Iraq.

We played checkers against an online computer. This popular strategy game was invented in Mesopotamia.

Our class played an American football game in Mathematics.

We had to do mental math with two and three digit division with remainders.

Our partners checked our answers on paper.

In ICT, we have been learning about computer mapping strategies.

Our group has been making their own Bill of Rights!

The children made a problem solving Math chart to help them figure out how many people were in a town.

We wondered what a "safe space" was.  Some of us have heard about safe places in the news. Some people thought it had no wars or guns. Others felt like it was a fair place. One person wrote that it is protected from danger.  Another child wrote that it was empty perhaps because it doesn't exist. For sure, it would be a happy place!

We learned about "trying out" for the Robotic's Team for Mr. Vanderweit.

In Music, the students are learning to play "Fallin(g)" by Alicia Keys on the piano and guitar.
