This week we started our new Unit of Inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves: Me on the Map. We began by thinking about places in our neighborhood and community, and drew a picture of places we see around our house. Each of us shared our pictures, and found that many of these places were present in each of our communities. As a class, we compiled the list of places and created a circle map.
Based on the list of places we compiled, we worked with our table groups to create different categories for these places. Some of the categories we came up with were "places where we learn," "places that keep us safe," "places where we exercise," etc. This will help us to start thinking about our Central Idea: Public places have different uses that help the community.
