Book Study : What pet should I get? By Dr Seuss
We have had such a fantastic second week in PreK learning about pets and how people care for them!
At the beginning of the week we read Dr Seuss's Book "What pet should I get?" and drew our ideal pet.
Visual Arts
Class Banner around our central idea 'People care for other living things'
We created a class Banner to show what we know about living things. We used water colour paints and pastels, we experimented what its like to work in a small space (around a table) and contribute to one 'work' together. We spoke about how we all spoke kindly to each other and took turns using the materials and giving each other space and encouragement!
Speaking and Listening
Talking Turtle
We used our class pet 'Talking Turtle' to discuss what happened in the book and how we felt about the ending. Building on our language skills talking turtle visits us whenever we want to talk about our opinions or reflect on our learning every afternoon.
IB Learner Profile
We had a new visitor to our class "Penny Principled", Penny teaches us all about being a principled person which is our learner profile for the new few weeks. Penny talks about telling the truth, taking turns and tidying away our things. Penny visits us and helps us remember what it means to a principled learner and person.
Number and Measurement
In maths this week, we practiced counting forwards using ten frame activities and skip counting by making a circle and counting my twos clapping the persons hands. We measured our own height and compared our heights to animals in the wild.
We built on our language skills by taking turns and asking for flowers. We started to understand how speaking kindly makes us feel happy, Using our manners to pass the flowers between the class. 'Please and Thank you' flowers. We were also able to tell each other what flower we wanted from the bunch by saying its color and shape "Can I please have the small white flowers or Can I please have the larger pink flowers?"
Speaking and Listening - Responding to information
We had some exciting new things shown to us in 'News'! In Pre-K we are building on our responses to information, when a classmate tells us some news we listening and responding with two questions and one comment. Developing our vocabulary by using question cards and thinking really hard about how we can learn more about what our peers are showing us.
