Grade 1 - Field Trip to Arakawa Recycle Center

On Wednesday, Grade 1 went on a field trip to Arakawa Recycle Center. We saw recyclable materials such as glass bottles, cans, styrofoam tray, and plastic (PET) bottles being sorted or processed. Glass bottles were sorted by different colors.

Cans were sorted into steel cans and aluminum cans. The belt conveyor was a magnet, which picked up the steel cans.

When we buy fish or meat at the supermarket, we often get them in styrofoam trays. These trays can be recycled too!

We learned that plastic bottles can be recycled into many different products such as trash bags, rulers, and even gloves! In order to recycle plastic bottles, first you need to take off the bottle cap. You should also remove the plastic label and wash the bottle. Then it's ready to be recycled!

We were also able to make coasters with recycled glass pieces. You can see these displayed in the Grade 1 room during International Children's Day tomorrow, along with another piece of "recycled art." Hope to see you there!
