Grade 1 - Recycling

We have been thinking about the impact of people's choices on the environment, and how we are caring for the local environment. Many of us were familiar with the word "recycle" and how things such as plastic bottles and glass bottles were recycled to be made into new bottles again. Some of our students brought in pictures to explain how they recycle items at home, or how certain recyclables are collected on specific days in their area. 

We've sorted different recyclable materials in our sketchbooks, such as glass, metal, plastic, and paper. Now we are also thinking about how we can reduce and reuse materials to help the environment. 

In math, we learned about equal and unequal parts. We learned about halves and fourths (quarters), and drew different shapes to create 2 or 4 equal parts for each one. Some of us got quite creative!
