9/23/2016 Who We Are Grade 3 Week 4

We made a connection between the Greek alphabet and the English one. We get our English alphabet from the Greeks but our alphabet has 26 letters and the Greek alphabet has 24. The first letter of the Greek alphabet is alpha and the last letter is omega. The children wrote their names in Greek and tried to guess who was who. Some of the names were easy to recognize.
The students did an experiment on displacement of water. They weighed plastic bears.
The children placed the bears one at a time in a graduated cylinder and measured how much the water level went up.

This experiment went along with our studies about the Archimedes Principle.

Our budding scientists have been experimenting in robotics and as you can see they did a great job. We learned that tendons help move our hands and so the students wanted to see if we could automate a fake hand (prosthetic limb).
