Grade 4 - How the World Works - "Human Energy Use" Summative Tasks

After tuning in, finding out, and sorting out what energy is in general and the forms of energy, Grade 4's summative task for the unit was to choose one way that humans get the energy that we use, work in groups to research more deeply about how it works and the pros and cons of it, and create a presentation to share their learning.  The students chose solar panels, coal power plants, geothermal power plants, wind turbines, electricity and chemical energy.  Here they are at work developing questions, researching answers, and creating displays to share their new knowledge and ideas.

This Thursday after our time was up to research and create the presentations, we had our Celebration of Learning.  The students presented their research and understanding to their parents.  The parents who attended also filled out assessment forms for the students' work, giving them constructive feedback on their presentation skills, both in speaking and visually.  It was a great experience for the students to share their new knowledge, practice presenting information in various ways to an audience, and get a stronger understanding of what good feedback is.  Thank you parents for helping make it a positive and beneficial experience for the students!!
