Grade 4: Week 10 Where We Are in Place and Time : Independent Cooperative Learning

Thank you to all the parents who came to our class on Parent's Day.  I am happy to have you all see the routines of our classroom and how the student's work independently of the teacher to learn things by using their self management and thinking skills, prior knowledge, resources and cooperation with their classmates.  Over time, I hope that this will help give them the confidence and skills to be able to productively think about their own learning, take care of themselves and learn anything they want to.  I also hope that by empowering them, they will develop more emphasis on intrinsic motivations for learning such as the desire to have more knowledge and become better people, instead of extrinsic motivations such as rewards or compliments.

Here are some photos of the students in action with independent cooperative learning.
