Grade 3 Term 1 Where We Are in Place and Time 11/18/2016
We have been working in teams on Word Problems in Mathematics involving division. We used Unifix cubes to enhance the process and we cooperated with each other.
This problem stated that 4 children were walking and they found $5.00. They turned the bill into their principal. After a month, the principal told the children that nobody had claimed the money and they could keep it. The children needed to divide the money into 4's. We found out that everyone got $1.25 apiece.
The children have been working on illustrating and writing stories. We added our voices and an animated gif.
A tall tale is a story that has stretched the truth and larger than life. Here is Sean's tall tale.
We have begun reading an easy chapter book entitled "Fantastic Mr. Fox" by Roald Dahl.

We had another problem too. We tried to show our work with a picture, equation and words. There were 17 pieces of candy and 4 children wanted to divide the candy equally. How would they do it? We figured out that everyone would get 4 and 1/4 pieces.

Grade 2 term 1 week 3 Where we are in place and time
Having
brainstormed the reasons for people and animals to migrate and thought about
how we can display the information, we began to make our big world map. It has
been a lot of fun and extremely educational. In pairs, the children have been
drawing the different continents, which we have now put together. The map is
looking really good and we have now moved on to getting our key information together.
The children decided that they want to present the information as a book and so
we are now working on another project for our inquiry.
Next week we
will start charting animal migrations and that will then lead us into our
investigation of human migrations.
In math we
started on a new topic: multiplication. The children were very excited to start
on a new skill and they are handling the new material very well. If parents
could help children count in groups of 2, 4, 5, 9 and 10 that would be a great
help.
Many thanks
to the children for all of the effort that they have put in.
Grade 4: Week 11: World Journal Entries
The students in Grade 4 are participating in creating a "World Journal" with students from Norway, USA, Pakistan, Russia, India, Ghana and Brazil. We were the first ones to write in the journal and then send it off to the next country for them to add more pages. In the end, the journal will be filled with ideas, knowledge and culture from the perspectives of different children around the world! Here are photos of the pages that our Grade 4 students created with information and knowledge that they thought was important and wanted to share with others.
Grade 5and 6: Week 11: Where We Are
This week, we are making a monster for our inquiry. First, we sketched and colored our 2 monsters in our Art Journal. Next, we made a name and we wrote 3 describing words for our monsters. Then we wrote a reflection to decide which monster is easier to make with clay. Next week, we are going to make our monster with clay! I am interested and excited to make clay!
