Week 3 Term 1 Library

This week in the Library, we read the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. The main character was Vashti. Her teacher was open-minded and encouraged her to sign her picture of a dot. Later, the teacher framed Vashti's picture with a sole dot on it. This gave Vashti self-confidence and helped her be a risk-taker and thinker to paint varieties of dots. Later, Vashti encouraged a little boy with his linear art. We were open-minded and made a connection between a dot and a circle. We inquired into how a dot is used in Grammar with periods and full stops. We found out that a period means to briefly stop but continue later. when reading  Periods are important in comprehending and understanding English. If we didn't have them then we would read too fast. We also found out that the dot is used to represent a sun, moon, and is found on the Japanese flag (which is the land of the rising sun).

We talked about how being open-minded helps us to be a more interesting person, to go out of our comfort zone and try new things, fosters creativity and gives us ideas on how to improve the world.
